What I’m Reading Right Now
Are you a reader? When I was just beginning in ministry, my senior pastor told me that you could tell when someone’s brain had died by looking at the copyright dates on their library shelves. I don’t know if that’s true…but I’d never argue against the idea.
I know this, though, about reading. I hope the day never arrives when I don’t have a stack of books that I’m reading, will be reading soon, or am continuing to mull over.
I also know that anyone looking over what’s in the stack can often tell what I’m working on and what’s next on the learning horizon.
Here’s what’s in the stack right now:
Designed to Lead: The Church and Leadership Development by Eric Geiger and Kevin Peck. Great read! Gives a very good overview of the conviction, culture and constructs needed to develop a leadership pipeline and pathway in the church.
The Leadership Pipeline: How to Build the Leadership Powered Company by Ram Charan, Stephen Drotter and James Noel. Like all things Ram Charan, this is an excellent and very detailed explanation of building a leadership pipeline.
Leadership Code: Five Rules to Lead by Dave Ulrich, Norm Smallwood and Kate Sweetman. This book (and particularly a fascinating diagram) was cited in Designed to Lead. It’s next up and I can’t wait to dig in.
Predictable Success: Getting Your Organization on the Growth Track-And Keeping It There by Les McKeown. I have the Audible version and will be picking up the print version. Some very good stuff that will play into my work with Intentional Churches.
